Record rainfall causes flooding, standing water

More than 10 inches of rain fell in the area overnight on Saturday, July 25, causing flooding in fields and basements, full ditches and lots of standing water. The Gibbon Fire Department had several trucks out overnight Saturday night and into Sunday morning pumping water to ease the strain on the sewer system. The rain gauge at Gibbon Hardware & Lumber was full and overflowing on Sunday morning. Just some of the areas that were affected include Gibbon, Fairfax, Franklin, Lafayette, and Winthrop. The campground at Fort Ridgely State Park was completely flooded, leaving campers scrambling to get packed up and out of their sites before the water got worse.
