Robert M. Freyholtz, age 72, of Litchfield, MN, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at The Gardens at Winsted in Winsted, MN.

Funeral Service was held Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson, MN with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.

Robert “Bob” Melvin Freyholtz was born on October 17, 1952, Sleepy Eye, MN, to Waldemar and Marilyn (Nelson) Freyholtz. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax, MN. Robert grew up on the family farm north of Fairfax. He attended school in Fairfax and graduated from the Fairfax High School in 1970. After high school, Robert worked on the family farm and worked for Alvin Bartels Trucking in Winthrop, MN.

On June 15, 1974, Robert married Sheryl Peetsch at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, MN. They lived and continued to farm north of Fairfax, where they were blessed with two sons, Jeremy and Shane. Robert and Sheryl shared 51 years of marriage.

In 1986, Robert and Sheryl moved to Illinois where he managed hog confinement barns. They returned home to Minnesota to be closer to family. Robert worked for farmers in the Benson Area and drove semi. He retired in 2007. Robert and Sheryl moved to Litchfield, MN, in 2022. Due to deteriorating health, Robert entered The Gardens Care Center in Winsted, Minnesota, on June 28, 2025. He passed away there peacefully on July 8, 2025.

Robert enjoyed life, especially time spent with his family. He loved playing cards and games at family gatherings or competing with Sheryl every evening while they watched Jeopardy. Robert loved playing cards in the “card club” with friends. He was proud of his Christian faith and served on the stewardship committee and was an elder at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madison, MN. Robert was so proud of his family, especially his two sons.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sheryl Freyholtz of Litchfield, MN; sons, Jeremy Freyholtz and his wife, Marsha of Hutchinson, MN, Shane Freyholtz and his wife, Heidi of Lyons, SD; grandchildren, Cole (fiancée, Meadow), Brayden, Benjamin, Aubree; great-grandsons, Steven and Kash; sister, Linda (Avery) Wills; sisters-in-law, Beverly (Dennis) Brede and Elaine (Ron) Herbst; brother-in-law, Norman (Sharon) Peetsch; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Waldemar and Marilyn Freyholtz; grandson, Cody Claycamp; father- and mother-in-law, Lewis and Selma Peetsch; brother-in-law, Alvin Peetsch and his wife, Donna.

He will be forever in our hearts. Rest in peace.
