It has been a while since we provided an update on the number of COVID-19 cases across our area, so to keep you up to date, here’s the latest information.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health’s website, as of Monday, February 7, the State of Minnesota has had 1,359,058 total positive cases, including reinfections. Newly reported cases total 6,617 across the state.

Our local area has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks. Cases continue to rise, and the virus continues to change, resulting in more concerning variants like Delta.
The most recent data released by the Renville County Public Health on August 19 reported 1,883 cases in Renville County for the month of August 2021.

Capacity restrictions to end on May 28, masking requirement to end by July 1
Governor Tim Walz recently announced a three-step timeline to end nearly all state COVID-19 restrictions by May 28, and end the statewide masking requirement once 70 percent of Minnesotans age 16 years and older get their vaccine, or by July 1.

Governor Tim Walz announced last week that, as of Tuesday, March 30, all Minnesotans 16 years of age and older will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. The final eligibility expansion comes as the federal government has promised an increased supply of vaccine by April. By expanding eligibility to all Minnesotans, providers across the state will have the flexibility they need to fill appointments and support the state’s most critical goal: to get as many Minnesotans vaccinated as quickly as possible.

Renville County Public Health Services provided COVID-19 vaccinations targeted for school personnel on Friday, February 5, 2021. While not enough to vaccinate all Renville County school personnel, one hundred eager people received doses.

The staff at the Fairfax Medical Clinic received their first round of the Pfizer COVID vaccine on December 29 at the Olivia Hospital. On Tuesday, December 1, during their second emergency school board meeting in as many weeks, the GFW School Board reviewed the COVID-19 numbers once more, and this time decided to make a change to the District’s learning model.

As of Monday, December 7, 2020, the State of Minnesota Department of Health is reporting a cumulative total of 356,152 positive cases of coronavirus across the state. Along with those cases, they also report a cumulative total of 4,005 deaths that have been attributed to the virus.
Closer to home, our local counties are also reporting an increase in cases as well.
