February is “Celebrate Reading” month at the elementary school! We have an entire month focused on literacy activities. On February 1-24, students will participate in our read-a-thon where we will raise money while we keep kids reading! Friends and family will sponsor students as they commit to reading twenty minutes a day at home if they are in Preschool through second grade and 30 minutes a day if they are in second through fourth grade

It feels like I often start these articles with something like “there’s a lot to be excited about at GFW,” but forgive me if I am repetitive, because there is really a lot to be excited about at GFW!

The GFW Theater Department, in cooperation with Sibley East Schools, presented their One-Act Play ‘Not-So Grimm Tales’. The performance was a compilation of fairy tales with a bit of a spin on the ‘damsel in distress’ theme, finding Snow White, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood solving their problems for themselves instead of waiting for their princes to rescue them. The group performed their show at the Sub-Section Competition last week and finished in second place.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost time for students at GFW High School to register for their classes for the 2023-24 school year! Students will once again get to use the new registration guide with expanded course offerings in our three academies to explore career options, prepare for college, and grow their knowledge.

There are so many great things happening at GFW! Our GFW In Flight is online and should be in your mailboxes very soon. The latest issue has all of our Community Ed and ECFE events that are coming up from January through May and there really is something for everyone!

Several seventh and eighth grade students from Prairie Lutheran School were recognized recently for their entries into the VFW Essay Contest. In December, three teams from the GFW FFA Chapter participated in the Region VII Contests. Pictured above, the Farm Business Management team placed sixth and earned a trip to the state competition.
