Elaine Grace Nevin, age 90, of Sioux Falls, SD went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Her family will be present to greet friends for memorial visitation on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 4-7 p.m at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. The graveside committal service will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Wayside Cemetery, Barron, WI.

Elaine Grace (Peterson) Nevin was born February 15, 1934 at the family home in rural Almena, WI, to Ernest Bernard and Pearl Mae (Bellows) Peterson. She was one of five children: Dorothy Mae, Ernest Bernard, Melvin Everett, Joyce Lorraine, and Elaine Grace. She was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, rural Almena, WI. She attended Hay River Valley Grade School, followed by Barron High School, Barron, WI., graduating in 1951. She married LeRoy Elwood Nevin on July 16, 1955, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Cumberland, WI with Dr. Martin E. Carlson of Augustana National Headquarters and Pastor Burdette Benson, co-officiating.

Elaine was employed by Lampert Yards and Bank of Barron in Barron, moving to Minneapolis, MN in 1953. There she was first employed by First National Bank in downtown Minneapolis. Elaine was the national accountant for the Augustana Lutheran Church National Headquarters from 1953 until LeRoy's ordination in 1959. The position was very challenging with detailed responsible work, but very rewarding with lifetime Christian friendships.

While living in Minneapolis, she attended night classes at Lutheran Bible School and Augsburg College. Before her marriage she lived at Maybeth Paige Christian Residence while working and volunteered at Big Sister's and Field Hotel and School for the Blind.

In June of 1959, LeRoy was ordained and began serving his first parish at Zion Lutheran Church in Adrian, MN, serving there until 1964. They moved to St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin, MN, serving there until 1972 and moving to Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Skogdalen Lutheran Church in Westby, WI, until 1987. They accepted a call to become the first chaplain at Bethany Good Samaritan Center in Brainerd, MN, and continued until his retirement in 1999.

Four children were born: Philip Lee in 1959, Joyce Elaine in 1960, Paul LeRoy in 1964 and Joel Len in 1967.

While living in Brainerd, Elaine was employed at American National Bank. She then accepted a position at Brainerd Daily Dispatch as newsroom receptionist and was also responsible for obituaries, births, marriages and some sections. It involved proofreading, editing and some composing with regular deadlines. This was an opportunity to meet many community leaders and the Sports Dept. had very interesting people to meet such as In-Fisherman and professional staff.

Semi-retirement brought the move to Sioux Falls to be with family and be involved with many special events of grandchildren. Health changes brought the decision to move to Trail Ridge Independent Living in 2017.

Elaine is survived by her four children, Philip Lee Nevin and his wife, Cynthia, Ramsey, MN, Joyce Elaine, Sioux Falls, SD, Paul LeRoy Nevin and his wife, Lana, Eagan, MN, and Joel Len Nevin and his wife, Barbara Jo, Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, LeeAnna Borchardt and her husband, Reid, Duluth, MN, Kristina Nevin, Woodbury, MN, Johanna Nevin, Milwaukee, WI, Rachel Solan and her husband, Teryn, Omaha, NE, Joshua Nevin, Sioux Falls, SD, and Rebecca Nevin, Sioux Falls, SD; one great-granddaughter, Leah Elaine Solan, Omaha, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, and sisters, Joyce Lorraine in infancy, Dorothy Mae Anderson, and brothers, Ernest B., Melvin E.; and her husband, LeRoy Elwood Nevin.
