Jennie Lea Deming, age 50, of St. Paul, MN peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, surrounded by family at Our Lady of Peace Hospice.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Eagan Community Center, 1501 Central Parkway, Eagan, MN, 55121 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Jennie’s family would appreciate a memorial to her children, Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul or your favorite charity.

Jennie was born on May 31, 1973, to Jerry and Joyce Deming in Fargo, ND. Growing up she lived in Staples and Rushford, MN. She attended school in Rushford where she excelled in women’s athletics and was an honor student. Her dream was to become a teacher. She received her bachelor’s degree from Luther College. Her love for education compelled her to pursue her master’s degree and ultimately earning her PhD in reading. As part of her love of education, Jennie was a published author as well. Jennie began her teaching career in the St. Paul Public School system (SPPS). During her tenure of over 27 years, she was nominated Teacher of the Year among other prestigious awards.

Jennie’s hobbies included a passion for traveling and to entertain. She also had a special knack for decorating and interior design. There was always an eclectic charm to her home. During quiet times, one could find Jennie reading or watching sports on TV. Family and friends had a special place in Jennie’s heart along with her love for animals, especially Great Danes. Jennie was blessed with two children, Jack and Lucy. It was no surprise to find her involved in her children’s activities, cheering them on in everything they were involved with. She rarely missed a family event, often bringing her charcuterie board skills along with her karaoke talents. Jennie could make friends everywhere she went and her personality and sense of humor will be forever missed.

Jennie is survived by her children Jack and Lucy Gabrych; father, Jerry Deming and stepmother, DeDe of Redwood Falls, MN; brother, Jay (Melissa) Deming of Garner, NC; niece, Sara (Scott) Posey; nephews, Brad, Sean and Shane Deming; many aunts and uncles; former husband, Travis Gabrych; and step-siblings, Nathan and Kelly Wanzek, Elizabeth and Bill DesLauriers and Meghan and Mike Levine.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Joyce; brother, Michael; uncles, Ron Deming and Mark Kodet; aunt, Gail Christensen; and grandparents, Ruby and Serenis Deming and Jean and Edward Kodet.
