Mary Ellen Foltz was born February 1, 1938 to Floyd and Angela (Moriarity) Foltz in Henderson, MN. She graduated from Henderson High School and went on to graduate from Mankato State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Mary moved to Gibbon to teach at the Gibbon Public School.

During her time in Gibbon, she met Jerome (Rommie) Petersen. They were married August 5, 1961 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Henderson. The two had three wonderful children, Ann, Peter, and John. While the children were young, Mary was a stay-at-home mom. After they grew, she went back to teaching for nine more years. A year after she retired, Mary became a paraprofessional at the Gaylord Public School. Ten years later, she finally decided to retire for good.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Mary served on the board and volunteered at the Sibley County Historical Society for many years. God blessed Mary with a wonderful family and many great friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
