Mary Volz, age 90, of Fairfax, MN passed away Monday, September 30, 2024, at Cedar Heart Homes in Franklin, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax with interment in St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery in Wanda, MN. Gathering of Family and Friends will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., all at the church.
Mary Katherine Volz was born on October 9, 1933, in Jeffers, MN. She was the daughter of William and Minnie (Ruby) Riley. Mary was baptized on April 17, 1935, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda. She received her education in Lamberton and was a graduate of the Lamberton High School class of 1951.
On November 24, 1952, Mary was united in marriage to Benedict J. Volz at the Catholic Church in St. George, MN. Mary and Benedict were blessed with seven children. She was employed at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm and most recently at Jackpot Junction in Morton. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mary and Benedict shared 39 years of marriage when he passed away on October 7, 1992.
Mary was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. She enjoyed playing cards, dice, quilting, embroidering, and camping with family and friends. Mary cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Her favorite phrase was “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
When she needed assistance with her care, Mary became a resident of Cedar Crest Homes in Franklin. Blessed be her memory.
Mary is survived by her children, Linda Ridl and her husband, Charles of Danube, MN, Jerome Volz and his wife, Marcia Siebert-Volz of Cross Lake, MN, Joseph Volz and his wife, Terry of Fairfax, MN, Theresa Wager of New Ulm, MN, Steven Volz and his wife, Mary of Fairfax, MN, Lisa Madson and her husband, Thomas of New Ulm, MN, and Ronald Guggisberg of Pengilly, MN; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Minnie Riley; husband, Benedict J. Volz; grandson, Jason Ridl; brother and sister-in-law, Fritz and Mary Guggisberg.
