Philip Blumhoefer
October 9, 1932-October 1, 2021
Philip Blumhoefer, age 88, of Fairfax, MN passed away Friday, October 1, 2021, at Countryview Assisted Living in Fairfax.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax.
Philip Jerome Blumhoefer was born on October 9, 1932, on the family farm in Wellington Township, Renville County, MN. He was the son of Benjamin and Theresa (Bastian) Blumhoefer and was the youngest of eight children. Philip was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and remained a devout Catholic for his entire life. He received his education at St. Andrew’s Parochial School in Fairfax.
Philip married Jayne Barrett of January 8, 1966. Their union was blessed with seven children. They raised their seven children on the same farm Philip was born and raised on. Philip did some custom bailing and also worked a variety of jobs through the years to provide for his family. Philip loved living on the farm and loved raising his large family on the same farm he grew up on. He had a strong faith in the Lord and had a deep love for his family, especially his 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Philip also had a great love for farming.
While raising his kids on the family farm, Philip made sure to instill a strong work ethic into his children while making sure they had some fun along the way. Each night before bed the kids would enjoy homemade popcorn from the cast iron skillet (made with lard-the best popcorn the kids ever had!) and ice cream. He was known to pile up the snow to open up the yard in the winter which the kids benefitted from, they would slide down those hills on their sleds and create tunnels, which kept them busy for hours! Philip would also take the hay hook off the track in the winter and would tie a loop in the rope so the kids could swing across the hay barn while they played in it.
Philip was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards. Philip cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
When he needed assistance with this daily care, Philip became a resident of Countryview Assisted Living in Fairfax.
Philip is survived by his children, Jackie and Chuck Anderson, Annie Blumhoefer (life partner, Jim Johnson), Steven Blumhoefer and Liliana Labrador, Matt and Sue Blumhoefer, Warren and Mandy Blumhoefer and Jim Blumhoefer (fiancé Melinda Wortman); ten grandchildren, Trisha (Kevin) Schumacher, Sarah Dombek, Emily (Josh) Nelson, Dalton Blumhoefer, Logan Blumhoefer, Nicholas Blumhoefer, Alexandra Blumhoefer and fiancé, Eric Johnson, Lucas Blumhoefer, Cole Blumhoefer, and Ben Blumhoefer; seven great-grandchildren, Randee, Madisen, Olivia and Jax Schumacher, Jordyn and Jozey Nelson, and Aidan Dombek; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Theresa Blumhoefer; daughter, Georgina Dombek; grandson, Jason Kienlen; sisters and brothers.
