PHYLLIS ANN (LUDWIG) PRAHL
Phyllis Ann (Ludwig) PRAHL
May 31, 1932-July 29, 2023
Phyllis Ann Prahl passed away on July 29, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Home, Springfield, MN at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 29 days, after a long and tiring time with dementia.
Phyllis Ann Ludwig was born on May 31, 1932 on a farm just south of Wanda, MN to Peter and Ellen Ludwig. She was Baptized and later Confirmed. When she was a year old they moved to a farm north of Revere until 1939, when they moved to Franklin. Phyllis went to school in Franklin and attended Franklin High School becoming Homecoming Queen and the Salutatorian of the Class of 1951. She was always very proud of her little town of Franklin. After graduating Phyllis was employed at the Franklin State Bank.
On September 17, 1955 Phyllis was united in marriage to Howard Frederick Prahl at Eden Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in rural Morgan, MN and resided on a farm in North Eden Township until 1989. Here they farmed and were blessed with two sons, Stan in 1956 and Steve in 1958. In 1968 Phyllis went back to work starting at the Farm Service Agency in Sleepy Eye and in the Redwood Falls location working 20 plus years. In 1989 they moved to Redwood Falls where Phyllis resided till March of 2021, when she moved to Country View Estates in Fairfax due to health concerns. She remained there for 28 months until failing health forced her to move to St. John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield in mid July 2023. Together they belonged to Zion Lutheran Church and later to St. John in Redwood Falls for many years.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends, watching her sons and grandsons and great-grandchildren growing up. She loved going to the farm helping Steve and pickup rides through the country and river bottom and was always ready for a trip “out west”. She loved the Badlands and mountains, farms and ranches. She also loved to walk and keep fit and at 90+ could still move at quite a good clip, especially when leaving the Assisted Living, but oh so slow upon returning there.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Steve of Morgan; grandsons, Tyson Prahl of Minneapolis, Tyler (Brianna) Prahl of Siren, Wisconsin, their two children, Amelie and Felix; Torey Prahl (special friend Sara) of St. Paul; brother, Larry Ludwig of Monticello; many nieces and nephews. Ronda Huls (Stan’s special friend) of Brownton and Stan’s former wife, Dorothy Prahl of Minnetonka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Ellen Ludwig; Howard’s parents, Otto and Emily Prahl. Her husband, Howard, in 2008; son, Stan in 2023; sisters, Evelyn (Frank) Saelens, Janet (Ray Estum and Bernard) Hilgyar; Francis (Ralph) Eichten; sister-in-law Helen (Robert) Runck; sister-in-laws, Phyllis Prahl and Betty (Harvey) Prahl and several nieces and nephews.
Thank you to Dr. David Danielson and staff at Centre Care of Redwood Falls, the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Home and especially to all the wonderful gals at Country View Estates, Fairfax. Phyllis could brighten any room with her smile, kindness and generosity. It’s been quite a journey. Rest in Peace now, Mom.
