T-Bird boys go head to head with Sibley East Wolverines

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team traveled to Arlington on Monday, January 13 to face the Sibley East Wolverines in a non-conference matchup.

The Wolverines jumped ahead early, but the T-Birds battled back and tied things up twice before taking the lead. 

Sibley East reclaimed that lead with a three-pointer, going up 9-6 briefly before the T-Birds forced another lead change and then hung on through most of the first half.

Late in the first half, Sibley East shifted the momentum of the game and took the lead once more. As the teams headed into the break, the T-Birds were facing a one-point deficit, with a score of 29-30.

Unfortunately, the momentum shift continued through the second half, and the T-Birds weren’t able to find their way back. The Wolverines came away with the victory, with a final score of 65-75.

Johnnie Ambrose led the T-Birds with 21 points, four assists, 11 rebounds and one block. Damian Hopp added 17 points, three rebounds five assists, and one steal.

Ryan Lavrenz contributed another 13 points and Tylor Hopp added six points, eight rebounds, three assists and eight steals.

Ethan Schwarzrock and Dominic Henrichs each scored four points in the game. Schwarzrock also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Henrichs added five rebounds and one steal.
