FLORENCE “SUE” M. SMITH

Florence “Sue” M. Smith, age 80, of Fairfax, MN, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at her home in Fairfax.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, April 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m., at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m., all at the church on Saturday.

Florence “Sue” Marie Smith was born on February 18, 1946, in Tracy, MN. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Marie (Visker) VanHorn. Sue was baptized as an infant and was confirmed in her youth. She received her education in Tracy, MN.

On August 20, 1960, Sue was united in marriage to Dallas Smith at the First Baptist Church in Hastings, MN. After their marriage, the couple resided in St. Paul Park, Stewart, Gibbon, New Ulm and in 2003, they moved to Fairfax. Sue was employed as a PCA and Nursing Assistant. Sue and Dallas were blessed with five children, Wanda, James, Linda, Robert and Lisa. The couple shared 54 years of marriage until Dallas passed away on November 14, 2014.

Sue was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax and Living Word Church in Redwood Falls. Her faith was very important to her.

Sue loved camping and fishing. She enjoyed barbeques in the backyard, traveling, and going to Jackpot Junction. Sue cherished the time she spent with her family.

Sue is survived by her children, Wanda Suchy and her husband, Donald of Battle Lake, MN, James Smith and his significant other, Daisy Geisler of Sleepy Eye, MN, Linda McDonald and her husband, Thomas of Redwood Falls, MN, Robert Smith of Fairfax, MN, and Lisa Valnes and her husband, Monte of Dilworth, MN; grandchildren, Crystal (Dave) Gitter, Joshua (Erica) Suchy, Samantha (Pejmom) Nadima, Sarah Smith and special friend, Brian, Amy (Mark) Forcier, Denise (Junior) Vela, Mitchell Smith, Stephanie Knoebel and special friend, Richard, Robert (Selah) Smith, Sabrina Troff, Hope Smith, Randy (Marcedes) Reffitt, Ricky Rice; many great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Marie VanHorn; husband, Dallas Smith; grandson, Daniel Smith, great-grandson, Jaden Sander; brothers, Roger DeYoung and Wayne DeYoung.
