Behind every face there is a story. Chris Gordon, a special education teacher in New Ulm woke up one day in the spring of 2015 with a softball-sized lump in his elbow. Within a matter of hours his life was upended when it was determined that a minor scratch, he got on his hand in his garage turned into him contracting a flesh-eating bacteria.

On October 1, Lafayette Public Charter School students in grades four through eight gathered to listen to candidates’ speeches and to cast their votes for Student Council members for the 2021-2022 school year. The mood was quiet and respectful, as students patiently waited for an open voting booth, and once ballots were dropped in the official box, each of them received an “I Voted” sticker. Just like in real life, in a world before Covid brought an end to many “normal” school activities.

During the month of October, Cedar Mountain is highlighting National Bullying Prevention Month and continuing to ensure our students safety. We are continuing to use a proactive approach to anti-bullying as well as utilizing A.L.I.C.E during our building lockdowns.

The Cedar Mountain School Board met for their regular meeting on September 20.
Beginning the meeting Superintendent Brandl recognized several donations to the school from several organizations. Also, Brandl thanked various businesses and organizations for sponsoring live streaming of Cedar Mountain events.

Nationally many school districts are scrambling to find solutions to the school bus driver shortage. Locally, the GFW and Cedar Mountain School districts are not immune to this issue but faring better than most.

At Cedar Mountain we work to enhance the social dynamics of our school to create an atmosphere of teamwork, friendship and respect. We hope our approach is a pro-active approach with using many “Teach-To” experiences to set our students up for success.
