The Gibbon Fire Department was named Fire Department of the Year by the Minnesota State Fire Department Association at their annual convention on Saturday, September 16. The department was nominated for the award following the creation of and fundraising for their ‘R3 Trailer’ (Rural Rescue Response) designed to support the unique challenges of rural rescue events.

The Morgan Fire Department held their annual Patriot Day event on Monday, September 11 to commemorate the American lives lost in the attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001. The department invited the community to join them for a meal including burgers, hot dogs, chips and beverages at the fire hall. Gil-Mor Manor and Gil-Mor Haven is a non-profit senior living community located in Morgan, Minnesota that consists of a 35-bed skilled nursing home with an attached 16-unit assisted living facility.

The GFW School District released a draft of the plan for the new school site last week. The drawings include both lower and upper levels of the building itself, as well as a plan for the entire site, including athletic fields and practice facilities, a school farm. The plan also includes proposed future expansions for tennis courts, bus garage and additional parking, and classroom space. (Submitted photos)

Homecoming week at Cedar Mountain is the week of September 18 – 22. The 2023 Homecoming Candidates for Cedar Mountain are (front row) Kenadi Heiling, Colette Mathiowetz, Hailey Hollar, Kenley Schiller, (back row) Kegan Tietz, Branndon Pendleton, Cooper Freitag and Ryan Kevelin. The variety show and coronation are scheduled for Wednesday, September 20 at 7 pm. The volleyball team will host MVL on Thursday, September 21 and the football team hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Friday, September 22 at 7 pm.

The Gibbon City Council met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, September 5.
After the agenda was approved, the Council heard from Minnesota House Representative Bobbie Harder, who was on hand to introduce herself and provide an update on what’s happening with the legislature. She invited everyone to subscribe to her newsletter and encouraged people to reach out if they have questions or concerns.

The Morgan City Council met to conduct their regular business on Wednesday, September 6.
Following the approval of the agenda and minutes, the Council heard from Scott Welter. The dump truck is back from the shop where it was repaired. The repairs took six months and cost about $6,000. Parts are getting harder and harder to get. Welter suggested that the city consider budgeting for a replacement soon.
