Bernadine Anna Mathiowetz, age 102, of Morgan, MN died Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home, Morgan.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, April 9, 2021 from St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan with burial in the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.

Bernadine was born to John and Lucy (Hickel) Schunk on February 12, 1919 in Bashaw Township, Brown County, MN.

On November 6, 1941, Bernadine married Othmar Mathiowetz at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield, MN. She loved being a homemaker and mother to three children. She enjoyed gardening, baking, mowing the lawn and dancing to old time music. She was known to have jewelry with every outfit. Bernadine was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the CCW.

Bernadine is survived by her children, Joanne (Dave) Simonsen of Morgan, Lavonne (Mark) Gilbertson of Burnsville and Kenneth (Deb) Mathiowetz of Morgan; grandchildren, Chris (Becca) Simonsen, Aaron (Jaime) Simonsen, Angie (Lee) Goren, Jeff Gilbertson, Nicholas (Becky) Mathiowetz and Kim (Mike) Woodford; and nine great-grandchildren.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband, Othmar in 1986; brother, Ralph Schunk; sister, Delores Hammerschmidt; great-granddaughter, Piper Woodford and special friend, Ben Wurtzberger.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home, 96 Third St. SE., Morgan, MN 56266.
