DAVID CHARLES SATHER

DAVID CHARLES SATHER

July 15, 1934-June 8, 2026

David Charles Sather, age 91, of Redwood Falls, MN, formerly of Franklin, MN went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 8, 2026, at River Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Redwood Falls.

The Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Central Lutheran Church, Camp Township, Renville County, MN, with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Bandon Township, Renville County, MN.

David was born on July 15, 1934, to Obert and Esther (Benson) Sather – the third of six children. He was baptized as an infant at Zion Lutheran Church in Bandon Township and later confirmed in his faith as a youth.  From an early age, David learned the values of hard work.  Growing up in rural Minnesota in the thirties and forties, David’s early life meant walking to a one-room schoolhouse for his studies until eventually attending and graduating from Franklin High School in 1952.

David was born to be a farmer – a steward of livestock and the land.  Partnering with his brother Ellsworth, they grew and evolved the family farm started by their father – first into two thousand head of cattle, and then eventually evolving the operation into a productive row crop farm of soybeans and corn. Later the family farm would continue to evolve.  In the 2000s, David was joined by his son, Michael, allowing him to see his work handed along to the next generation of family farmers.

David’s truest measure, and enduring legacy can’t be measured in acres or bushels, but in the deep love he had for his partner and wife, Sylvia (Sherman) Sather.  Married on September 25, 1955, their partnership was felt in the field and around the table. They raised five children – Jewel, Lori, Brian, Darren and Michael and made their home on the family farm in Bandon Township, of rural Franklin.

David loved making memories with his family, including annual family vacations often spent around a lake, camping, fishing, and exploring.  The family eventually grew to include 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

David was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Camp Township and a former member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Franklin, where he served as trustee.

The family is grateful for the staff at Garnette Gardens and River Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Redwood Falls, for the loving care they provided David the last three years.

 Blessed be his memory
