Earl Peterson

Earl Peterson, age 88, of Fairfax, MN passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.

Memorial Service was held on Monday, July 20, 2020, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax with interment in Swedlanda Lutheran Cemetery, Palmyra Township, Renville County, MN.

Earl Raymond Peterson was born on August 20, 1931, in Eden Township, Brown County, MN. He was the son of Raymond and Louise (Haugley) Peterson. Earl was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax. He received his education at Brown County District #79, Fairfax and was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1950.

On February 10, 1951, Earl entered active military duty in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received the Occupational Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Earl was Honorably Discharged on January 21, 1954, achieving the rank of sergeant.

On September 21, 1995, Earl was united in marriage to Ioda Grunke Anderson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax. After their marriage, the couple resided in Fairfax. Earl was employed at the Fairfax Co-op Creamery, Jackpot Junction and also farmed in rural Sleepy Eye.

Earl was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax. He enjoyed watching all sports and jigsaw puzzles. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

When he needed assistance with his care, Earl became a resident of the Fairfax Community.

Earl is survived by his step-son, Chuck Anderson and his wife, Jackie of Fairfax, MN; step-daughter-in-law, Phyllis Anderson of AZ; step-son-in-law, Gary Hanson and his special friend, Deborah Nelson, of Fairfax, MN; grandchildren, Nathan, Sarah, David and Emily; great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Katelyn, Maddy, Alex, Grace, Tyler, Jordyn, Jozey, and Nolan; sister, Carol Thompson and her husband, Ray of Franklin, MN; brother, Orlo Peterson of TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Louise Peterson; wife, Ioda Peterson; step-daughter, Lorene Hanson; step-son, Jim Anderson; sister, Darlene Benedict and grandchild, Tara Portner.
