HARLAN FALK SPAUDE

Harlan “Buck” Spaude, 91, of Gibbon, MN passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at SouthView Living Center in Gibbon.

A private graveside service with family only will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church cemetery in Gibbon.

Harlan Falk Spaude was born on April 11, 1929 to William and Anna (Falk) Spaude in New Ulm, MN. He attended Gibbon schools and farmed in Severance Township in partnership with his brother Vyrl, and later with his son Kevin. Harlan loved faming as well as gardening and took great pride in growing the best sweet corn. He was a true lover of animals, especially his dogs.

In the 50’s and 60’s Harlan was actively involved in the Gibbon Sportsman’s Club at Clear Lake and was one of the original supporters/founders in building and developing the softball field for city recreation on the west edge of Gibbon.

In his later years, his yellow lab Buster, was his constant companion and the two of them would travel the country roads. Harlan also loved hunting, fishing and stock car races in Arlington, Redwood Falls and Jackson, with his children and grandchildren. He was affectionately nicknamed “Buck” by many who knew him. He had a great sense of humor, which we will all miss.

Harlan was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marilyn (Meder); seven children, Robin (Karon) Spaude of Granite Falls, Barry Spaude of Gibbon, Jan Marie (Tom) Posl of Florida, Kevin (Karen) Spaude of Gibbon, Bradley (Karen) Spaude of Gibbon, Jon Spaude of Farmington, and Jean Cable of Fairfax; as well as nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Vyrl and sister-in-law Yvonne; brother, Leighton Spaude; sister, Carolyn (Kelly) Eidson and brother-in-law Clyde Eidson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Erna Meder; brother-in-law, Alvin Meder; and son-in-law, Tom Cable.
