LaVerna Christina Martin, age 91, of Gibbon, MN died peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2020, at her home with her family at her side.

Funeral service were held on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon. Burial will follow in the Augustana Lutheran Cemetery in Gibbon.

LaVerna Christine Lewin was born January 26, 1929, in Grafton Township-Sibley County to Otto and Ella (Patzold) Lewin.

LaVerna was united in marriage to Laverne Martin on May 7, 1947, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, MN. This union blessed the couple with three sons and a daughter whom together they raised in Gibbon. LaVerna worked from the home raising her family, but also worked for over 25 years at ADC Telecommunications in Fairfax; retiring in 1987. Besides her work, there were a variety of hobbies she dearly enjoyed in life.

In retirement, LaVerna and Laverne enjoyed seeing the country camping in their travel trailer. Many great memories were made with their grandsons camping as well. To relax she enjoyed spending time tending to her gardens in the summers. LaVerna was known by her family as being a wonderful host and baker. There was always an abundance of food and treats in the house when LaVerna got the privilege of hosting holiday gatherings. She also had the honor of passing down her skill for making lefse to the next generation. She was an active fan of Minnesota sports teams; her favorites being the Twins, Timberwolves, and Wild.

She was a devout and dedicated member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon. She served on numerous volunteer committees, ladies service groups, and served as the funeral lunch coordinator for many years. Although LaVerna lived a long and beautiful 91 years, she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Countless cherished memories will forever stay in the hearts of those who were blessed to have her in their lives.

LaVerna is survived by her sons, Steven (Linda) Martin of Gibbon, Greg Martin of Gibbon, Scott (Julie) Martin of Apple Valley; grandsons, Ross (Val) Martin of Courtland, Troy (Amy) Martin of Winthrop, Jay Martin of Gibbon, Lucas (Katie) Martin of Farmington; great-grandchildren, Janaye (Leighton) Messner, Evan Martin, Logan Martin all of Winthrop, Kayla Martin, Emma Martin, Ella Martin all of Courtland; her brothers, Leroy (Sylvia) Lewin of Glencoe, Lawrence Lewin of Osakis; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laverne Martin; daughter, Susan Martin; sisters, LuElla Pierskala, Leona Wandrei, Lorraine Briese; and brothers, Leonard and Lowell Lewin.
