Merelyn Kiecker was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1924, at her parent's home in rural Fairfax. She was the daughter of Fred and Stella (Black) Deterling. Merelyn was baptized as an infant on March 2, 1924, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, rural Fairfax, and was later confirmed in her Christian faith as a youth on May 15, 1938, by Reverend E.G. Fritz.

On February 16, 1944, Merelyn was united in marriage to Laurence Kiecker at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township. They began their life together in the newly constructed house on their farm in Wellington Township. They were blessed with two sons, Laurel and Gregry. In 1978, they moved to Fairfax. Merelyn and Laurence shared 59 loving years together farming side by side. On August 8, 2003, Laurence passed away and left Merelyn to continue to farm which she did for seven more years, even though she considered herself retired. With grace and dignity, she resided at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. She was cared for by a compassionate staff until her death, reaching the age of 95 years, 10 months, and five days.

Merelyn and Laurence loved to travel by car, by ship and by airplane. Their destinations took them around the world. Merelyn was always the center of Laurence's motion picture camera as he recorded each and every trip for the children and grandchildren to cherish forever.

Merelyn is survived by her sons, Laurel Kiecker and his wife Donna of Rio Vista, CA, and Greg Kiecker and his wife Maxine of Hector, MN; grandchildren, Deb Trappen and her husband Andrew, Laurie Kiecker, Keith Bennett, Karl Bennett, Anna Doehling and husband Brian, Christina Clobes and her husband Scott, Rebekah Kiecker and Marc Kiecker; great-grandchildren, Aubrey (Alex), Nicole, Nadine, Wyatt, Hadley, and Bryce; one great-great-grandchild, Osario; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Merelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Stella Deterling; husband, Laurence Kiecker; sister, Bernelda Kiecker and her first husband Melvin and second husband Clifford.

And now she bids us farewell with her famous line: "Auf Wiedersehen."
