Rosemary Vait, age 92, of Fairfax, MN passed away Friday, November 28, 2025, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial was be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax with interment in the church cemetery.
Rosemary Agnes Vait was born on September 12, 1933, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, MN. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Angeline (Huhn) Rathmann. Rosemary was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in her faith, both at St. Willibrord Catholic Church in Gibbon. She received her education in Gibbon and was a graduate of the Gibbon High School class of 1951.
On April 25, 1956, Rosemary was united in marriage to LeRoy Vait at St. Willibrord Catholic Church in Gibbon. After their marriage, the couple resided in Fairfax. She was a loving wife and mother. This union was blessed with four children. Rosemary and LeRoy shared 58 years of marriage when LeRoy passed away on December 22, 2014.
Rosemary was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Aid, Christian Mother’s Society, CCW and the quilt mission group. She was also a member of the Fairfax American Legion Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Legion Auxiliary and former Top 20 Extension Group.
Rosemary enjoyed crafts, traveling, embroidering, work puzzles, painting her husband’s woodworking projects, and quilting. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rosemary is survived by her children, Michael Vait and his wife, Maribeth of Fairfax, MN, Thomas Vait of TX, Sheryl Rooney and her husband, Wayne of MT, and Ranee Volkers of St. Paul, MN; seven grandchildren, Bill (Maggie) Vait, Erin (Dan) Karlin, Rachel Vait, Tyler and Bryce Rooney, Carson and Ellie Volkers; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Nolan and Brennan Vait, Makswell and Kaija Karlin, and Nelli Rooney; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Angeline Rathmann; husband, LeRoy Vait; sisters, Judy Rathmann and Sharon Grochow and her husband, Maynard; brother, Larry Rathmann and his wife, Linda.
