Residents of Fairfax have been missing their local grocery store for more than a year now. If you’ve driven Park Street recently though, you’ve no doubt noticed some activity at the former Maynard’s building, and there’s a good reason for that.
Crews are feverishly working on various tasks to get the building ready for re-occupation, which is expected to happen sometime next month.

Being forced to stay at home is no picnic, but it’s doubly frustrating when you’re 12 years old and it’s your birthday. But we make the best with what we have, so the Fairfax Fire Department (along with other departments in the area, and across the country) is pitching in to help make birthdays a little brighter during this crazy time with birthday parades. On Monday evening, the department traveled through Fairfax with lights and sirens to help one young Fairfax youngster celebrate his special day.

Gibbon native Megan Hillmann traveled to Brooklyn, New York this past week, right into the U.S. epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic, to help care for COVID-19 patients. Hillmann is a registered nurse with seven years of ICU experience. She indicated that she felt compelled to share her experience and skills wehre she is needed most. Her family, along with the Gibbon Fire Department, orchestrated a send-off for Hillmann last week at their home.

WIC wants families to know that we are here for them. The Southwest Health and Human Services (SWHHS) office in Redwood County is open for current participants and new participants.

The Fairfax City Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 14. The meeting was held by phone due to the current pandemic.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, the Agenda and the Consent Agenda were approved, the group moved on to New Business, and a discussion about liquor licenses.

It's easy to take our schools for granted during ‘normal’ times. We send our kids off to school knowing where they will be for the next eight hours, and that they will be watched over, cared for and taught by teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, principals, superintendents, custodians and lunch ladies.

The Morgan City Council met for their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 8. After the agenda and minutes were approved, the group moved on to open the single sealed bid they received for the street truck. The bid was from Eric Nelson in the amount of $1,851.00. Council accepted the bid.
