As we navigate through this “new normal” our students have shown their resilience. We have been able to accomplish many things. With the students being in school every other day we have had fire drills, ALICE drills and bus safety. Student pictures were taken. We have settled into our new classes and routines. Students are doing a great job and seem to be grateful to be back in school. Here are some highlights and upcoming events:

Cedar Mountain Homecoming 2020

Cedar Mountain 2020 Homecoming Candidates

In order to celebrate homecoming week, students will have dress-up days during the week, and activities at the football field on Tuesday (B group) and Wednesday (A group). Coronation will be held prior to the football game on October 9 against Westbrook Walnut Grove. (There will not be a variety show this year.)

Welcome back to a NEW style of school year --- with the SAME warm climate of kindness and care! 

I saw one of our students this summer …. and she ran up to me excitedly and said “Mrs. Machart, I didn’t ever think I would see you again!” We are so glad that we have our students back in our classrooms and hallways. Yes, there are some new ways of doing things – but, the staff that are here working with your children are the constant and they will make this school year great no matter how we do our routines.

GFW Schools looking to the future with a renewed focus

It has been about a month since voters in the communities of Gibbon, Fairfax, and Winthrop came together to help us address our financial challenges. On August 11, voters approved the operating levy for GFW schools that will increase our revenue and allow us to retain priority programs and quality teachers, keep class sizes low, and stabilize our finances over time. We greatly appreciate your support and participation in the process. 

Cedar Mountain Schools welcome back students and staff

A new school year is underway in Morgan and Franklin! After months of planning, Cedar Mountain has welcomed back students and staff for the 2020-2021 school year. Many processes and procedures have been put in place to make this a reality and seeing the joy on our students faces has made it all worth it. Thank you to everyone who played a role in making the kickoff to the new year a success.

GFW welcomes new teachers

Five new teachers will join the ranks of the GFW staff this year. 

Our first introduction is of Ms. Laura Fortwengler, who will be the Special Education teacher at the high school this year. 

Fortwengler is originally from New Ulm, and attended Mankato State and Southwest State University in Marshall to get her degrees.
