Kickin’ Cancer in Redwood County

It’s difficult to find anyone who hasn’t been impacted by cancer. Those of us faced with a diagnosis work hard to fight and beat the disease. Those of us with a loved one diagnosed with the disease feel helpless and look for any small way to provide support and assistance.

It was 1981 and Jim “Shavey” Prax had just graduated from St. Cloud State with a degree in biology. The interest rate that year was 16.63 percent and there were no jobs to be had. Jim and his cousin Dave created their own jobs painting houses.

Catfish Derby Days is coming up this weekend, and to kick things off, the new Miss Franklin will be crowned. 

This year’s lone candidate is Emmerson McCorquodale. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Bill and Beth McCorquodale, and sister to Talia. 

In school, Emmerson plays tennis and is active in National Honor Society. She also does tutoring.

Karen Hoffmann-Distad and Darin Prescott started working together to meet a need in the area that they discovered through both personal and professional efforts of their own. Both Karen and Darin are nurses with 30-plus years of experience in the medical field.

Gibbon Council approves water/sewer line project

The monthly meeting of the Gibbon City Council was called to order on July 5, 2022. 

After looking more closely at the impounded vehicles transferred to the City, it was found that more work would be needed to get them running than originally thought. Council was advised, and they agreed, it made more sense to scrap the vehicles than to try and auction them.
