WIC is open and here to support families

WIC wants families to know that we are here for them. The Southwest Health and Human Services (SWHHS) office in Redwood County is open for current participants and new participants.

To reach the SWHHS office in Redwood County WIC program call 507-637-4041. Families can find the phone number for other WIC programs by calling 1-800-942-4030.

Fairfax Council approves several quotes

The Fairfax City Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 14. The meeting was held by phone due to the current pandemic.

After the Pledge of Allegiance, the Agenda and the Consent Agenda were approved, the group moved on to New Business, and a discussion about liquor licenses.

Franklin Council holds virtual meeting

The Franklin City Council met for their April meeting via electronic means on Monday, April 13, 2020. 

Following the approval of the agenda and the minutes of last month’s meeting, the group moved on to the Consent Agenda, which was also approved.

Area students, teachers make the most of Distance Learning

We send our kids off to school knowing where they will be for the next eight hours, and that they will be watched over, cared for and taught by teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, principals, superintendents, custodians and lunch ladies.

Morgan Council addresses policy for COVID-19 exposure

The Morgan City Council met for their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 8. After the agenda and minutes were approved, the group moved on to open the single sealed bid they received for the street truck. The bid was from Eric Nelson in the amount of $1,851.00. Council accepted the bid.

Vietnam Veterans Display in Fairfax

National Vietnam Veteran’s Day was March 29, 2020. The Fairfax VFW Auxiliary assembled a display to recognize those that served during that time.  The display was supposed to be set up in the library, but because the library was closed due to the COVID-19 virus, it found a home in the window of Fairfax TV, along First Street Southeast, in Fairfax, where it will remain through this week. Gibbon City Council responds to COVID 19 concerns

Donation of flowers brightens the day for Countryview residents

Two anonymous donors from Fairfax wanted to brighten the day for residents at Countryview Estates who can’t have visitors due to the pandemic. The pair purchased four-inch potted plants from F&F Floral & Gifts and had them delivered to all 22 Countryview residents. Julie Wiethoff, of F&F Floral, is calling them ‘Cheer Me Up’ plants, and even though she had to drop them at the front door and couldn’t deliver to each individual resident, she is sure they lived up to their name. (Submitted photo)

Hector woman accused of murdering boyfriend

According to a statement from the Hector Police Department and a complaint filed in Renville County District Court last week, charges were filed against Elizabeth Perry Lynch, of Hector, after she admitted to shooting her boyfriend in their Hector residence.

Lynch called Renville County Dispatch about 1:00 am on March 26, 2020, to report that she had just shot her boyfriend, Tony Tebben.
