Lady Cougars drop one to Indians

The Cedar Mountain Lady Cougars traveled to Sleepy Eye on Friday, January 10 to face the Indians of Sleepy Eye Public in a Tomahawk Conference battle.

The Cougars struggled early on with cold shooting and ball control. The Indians took advantage of this and built themselves a 19-36 lead in the first half.

The Cedar Mountain Cougars hosted the Sleepy Eye Indians in a Tomahawk Conference matchup on Thursday, January 9 in Morgan. 

The game started off slow for both teams, but the Cougars eventually pulled out in front and, by the halftime break, had built a 23-14 advantage.

Things took off for the Cougars after the break. They added another 41 points to their total in the second half, leading them to an easy 64-32 victory.

Cougars claw past Bulldogs

The Cedar Mountain Cougars hosted the Janesville- Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs in their third game of the week on Friday, January 10.

The game started out slow on both sides of the court. The Cougars slowly pulled out in front, and by the halftime break, the Cougars had earned a 34-26 advantage.

Coming out of the break, the Cougars didn’t let up. They continued to add to their total, while keeping the Bulldogs at bay.

Cougar boys defeat Rabbits

The Cougar boys started their busy three-game week last week with a win over the Wabasso Rabbits on Tuesday, January 7. 

The Cougars hit the floor and did their damage early, building themselves a 39-23 lead at the halftime break.

Early in the second half, the Rabbits worked hard to close the gap, but the Cougars weren’t going to let it go easily. With 13 and a half minutes left to play, the Cougars had increased their lead to 20 points, with a score of 50-30.

T-Birds downed by Knights

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team traveled to Sleepy Eye on Tuesday, January 7 to take on the Knights of St. Mary’s on their home court. 

The T-Birds controlled the tip, but the Knights were the first to put points on the board. 

The T-Birds worked to keep pace with the Knights. With just over 14 minutes to play in the first half, the Knights held a four-point lead with a score of 7-11.

The Lady T-Birds hosted the Knights of Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday, January 7 in Winthrop.

Things started off slow for the T-Birds, and they only managed 16 points in the first half, compared to the Knights’ first-half score of 35.  

After the break, GFW hit the floor and kept pace with St. Mary’s, but it wasn’t enough to recover from the first-half deficit. 

The Knights came away with the win, with a final score of 43-61.

Lady T-Birds fly past Rabbits

The GFW girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Wabasso Rabbits in a Tomahawk Conference matchup in Fairfax on Friday, January 10.

The game got off to a slow start, but the worked the court and built themselves a 15-9 lead midway through the first half.

Abby Heimkes added two points on a short jumper for the T-Birds at the 5:20 mark, before Brynn Busse sent the ball up for three to extend GFW’s lead to 10 points.

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Cedar Mountain Cougars on Friday night, January 3 in Winthrop in the first game following the holiday break for both teams.

The Cougars controlled the tip, but the T-Birds put the first points on the board when Tylor Hopp nailed a three-pointer to start things off.

Lady Cougars, T-Birds hit the hardwood

The Cedar Mountain Lady Cougars hosted the T-Birds of GFW in a Tomahawk Conference battle on Friday, January 3 in Morgan.

Both teams took to the floor ready to battle it out. The T-Birds pulled out in front early and didn’t look back. 

By the halftime break, the Cougars were facing a 30-42 deficit.

Cougars can’t get past Panthers

The Cedar Mountain Cougars traveled to Windom on Friday, December 27 for a holiday tournament game against the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers.

The Cougars hit the floor and gave it their all, but the Panthers pulled ahead early and never looked back. 

By the halftime break, the Cougars were facing a 38-55 deficit, and they weren’t able to recover.  The game ended with a final score of 76-91.
