Lady T-Birds get zapped by Chargers

The GFW Lady T-Birds headed south to New Ulm on Thursday, January 23 to face the Chargers of MVL in a Tomahawk Conference battle.

Coming off of their win over New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday evening, the T-Birds hit the floor with some extra energy and enthusiasm.

Cougars can’t get past Warriors

The Cedar Mountain Cougars traveled to Bird Island on Friday, January 24 to take on the BOLD Warriors in a Section 2A battle.

It became clear early on that the Cougars were having an ‘off’ night. They struggled with turnovers and their shots weren’t falling where they needed to. 

T-Birds defeated by Hounds

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team traveled to New Ulm on Tuesday, January 21 to take on the Cathedral Greyhounds.

The T-Birds were the first to put points on the board as the back and forth battle began. They took the lead and held onto it through the first several minutes before the hounds went on a run that shifted the momentum of the game and gave them the lead.

The GFW girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Greyhounds of New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday, January 21 in Winthrop.

The girls kept the game close and the crowd on the edge of their seats through the first half. As the first half drew to a close, the score was tied at 22.

Cougars dominate Coyotes

The Cedar Mountain Cougar boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Coyotes in a non-conference basketball matchup on Monday, January 20.

The Cougars jumped out in front early, and refused to look back. They held a seven-point advantage at the halftime break, with a score of 37-30.

Lady Cougars fall to Falcons

The Cedar Mountain girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Falcons of Red Rock Central in a non-conference matchup on Thursday, January 23 in Morgan.

The Falcons jumped out in front early and never looked back. By the halftime break, the Lady Cougars were facing a 15-43 deficit. 

Lady Cougars clipped by Bluejays

The Cedar Mountain Lady Cougars faced off against the Bluejays of Central Minnesota Christian in Prinsburg on Monday, January 13 in a Section 2A battle.

The Bluejays took control of the game early, and the Lady Cougars didn’t have an answer for their tough defense. They just couldn’t get their shots to fall. 

Tighe reaches 100 wins in coaching career

With Sunday night's victory (Jan.19th) over the Dakota State Trojans in Madison, S.D., Mayville State Head Men's Basketball Coach Darren Tighe reached 100 wins in his young coaching career.

"I’ve had the opportunity to be part of great teams with great players and great assistant coaches. None of these wins are because of any one person with a singular focus," Tighe said. "That number is a tribute to a lot of hard work for a lot of people and I'm just happy to be a part of it."

T-Bird boys fly past Indians

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team traveled to Sleepy Eye on Thursday, January 16, for an impromptu double-header in an effort to get the game in before the impending snowstorm.

The game began with the T-Birds jumping out to a 5-0 lead early. Tylor Hopp expanded on that lead with a basket on a dish from Ethan Schwarzrock, and then Schwarzrock added two of his own to expand the lead to 9-4.

Cougars defeat Mustangs

The Cedar Mountain boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Buffalo Lake- Hector- Stewart Mustangs in a Tomahawk Conference contest on Thursday, January 16 in Morgan.

The Cougars started off slow, taking their time and steadily building their game. They had some trouble early on, giving up some turnovers and struggling with cold shooting.
