Cougar boys sneak past Rabbits

The Cedar Mountain boys basketball teams headed to Wabasso on Friday, February 7 to take on the Rabbits in a Tomahawk Conference battle. 

When these two teams met for the first time this season, back in early January, the Cougars came away with an easy victory, winning by nearly 20 points.

This time, the Rabbits were determined to make the Cougars work for it.

On Jan. 7, the PLS girls’ A team played Cedar Mountain in Franklin. The Patriots lost a close one 23-24 as the Cougars were able to sink a three pointer to tie the game with a little over a minute to play and then made a free throw with three seconds left to win by one.

Cougars suffer loss to Tigers

The Cedar Mountain boys’ varsity basketball team kicked off a boys/girls double-header on Friday evening in Morgan with the first game against the Springfield Tigers.

The tip went to the Tigers, but it didn’t take long for the Cougars to put points on the board when Jon Varner sank a shot from the field, and Caden Kleinschmidt added two more on a hook shot to get things going.

GFW boys can’t defeat Cyclones

The GFW T-Bird boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the St. Clair Cyclones in a Section 2A basketball match-up on Monday, January 27 in Winthrop.

The T-Birds jumped out to an early lead on a trio of baskets by Johnnie Ambrose, but the Cyclones figured out GFW’s offense pretty early on, and were able to pick off several passes in the first few minutes of the game. 

Lady T-Birds fall to Mustangs

The GFW girls’ basketball teams traveled to Hector on Friday, January 31 to take on the Mustangs of BLHS on their home court.

The T-Birds held their own early on but it wasn’t long before the Mustangs pulled out in front and never looked back.

By the halftime break, the T-Birds were facing a 16-point deficit, with a score of 15-31.

Lady T-Birds can’t get past Tigers

The GFW girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Springfield Tigers in a Tomahawk Conference matchup on Tuesday, January 28 in Winthrop.

The Tigers built themselves an early lead, and the T-Birds were forced to play catch-up for most of the game. 

At about the 10-minute mark, Brynn Busse nailed a nice three-pointer to take the score to 5-10.

The Cedar Mountain Lady Cougars hosted the Springfield Tigers in the second game of a Tomahawk Conference double-header on Friday, January 31 in Morgan.

The Cougars controlled the tip, and held their own for the first few minutes of the game, but the Lady Tigers turned on the gas and went on a 12-0 run, taking the score to 4-14 at the 11-minute mark.

Cougars get bit by Greyhounds

The Cedar Mountain boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Greyhounds of New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday, January 28 in Morgan. 

The Hounds jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. By the halftime break, they held a 10-point lead, with a score of 18-28.

Lady Cougars earn Tomahawk win over Hounds

The Cedar Mountain girls’ varsity team traveled to New Ulm on Tuesday, January 28 for a Tomahawk Conference matchup against the Cathedral Greyhounds.

The Cougars hit the floor and wasted no time. They were hitting their shots and keeping the Hounds at bay, building a 10-0 advantage early in the game. 

T-Bird boys fly past Mustangs

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the BLHS Mustangs in a Tomahawk Conference battle on Friday evening, January 31, in Fairfax.

The T-Birds held stead through the first half, with consistent shooting. 

By the end of the first half, the T-Birds had built themselves a decent advantage. They took at 10-point lead into the halftime break, with a score of 34-24.
