T-Bird boys battle Mustangs

The GFW varsity boys’ basketball team hosted the Mustangs of BLHS on Tuesday, January 11. 

For the first several minutes of the game, the teams kept things pretty close, trading baskets and working the floor. 

Midway through the first half, however, the Mustangs started to pull away, forcing the T-Birds to redouble their efforts.

Cougar boys get clipped by Falcons

The Cedar Mountain boys’ varsity basketball team headed to Lamberton on Monday, January 17 to take on the Falcons of Red Rock Central.

The Falcons controlled the tip and put the first points on the board.

T-Bird girls can’t get past Tigers

The GFW girls’ varsity basketball team went head-to-head with the Springfield Tigers on Thursday, January 13 in Winthrop. 

The first half had the fans on the edge of their seats as the teams traded baskets and worked to get ahead.

Going into the halftime break, the score was tied at 27-all.

Lady T-Birds struggle against Mustangs

The GFW girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Mustangs of BLHS on January 11 in a Tomahawk Conference battle.

The T-Birds struggled right out of the gate, struggling with ball-handling issues and turnovers, under the Mustang’s aggressive defense. GFW fell behind in the first half and at the break, the Mustangs had outscored the T-Birds more than two-to-one. 

Cougar boys bound past Chargers

The Cedar Mountain Cougars hosted the MVL Chargers on January 18 in Morgan.

The Chargers controlled the tip, but the Cougars put the first points on the board when Dakota Pendleton-Sam nailed a three pointer from the far side to put the Cougars up 3-0.

At the 13-minute mark, the Cougars had built an 8-2 lead, and they never looked back.

Lady Cougars come from behind to defeat Hounds

The Cedar Mountain girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Greyhounds of New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday, January 20 in Morgan.

The Cougars kicked things off with a basket by Lauren Welter and a three-pointer by Aubrey Steffl to take a 5-0 lead in the first couple minutes of the game.

Lady T-Birds fly past Mavericks

The GFW girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Mavericks of Martin County West on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in a non-conference contest.

The T-Birds played well and jumped ahead early. As the half progressed, they built themselves a comfortable lead, outscoring the Mavericks two to one. 

As the buzzer sounded, the T-Birds carried a 22-11 lead into the break.

Lady Cougars get clipped by Knights

The Cedar Mountain girls’ varsity basketball team hosted the Knights of Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday, January 11 in a Tomahawk Conference matchup.

The Knights controlled the tip and were the first to put points on the board, with a short jumper in the paint within the first few seconds of play.

Cougars fall to Knights

The Cedar Mountain Cougar boys’ basketball team took on the Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Knights on their home court on Tuesday, January 11.

The Cougars jumped out in front early and built themselves a 10-point advantage during the first half.

At the break, the Cougars led 39-29.
