The Cedar Mountain Cougar boys’ basketball teams headed to Lester Prairie for a non-conference matchup against the Bulldogs on Monday, December 21. 

The game was tight throughout the first half, The Cougars carried a one-point deficit into the halftime break with a score of 46-47.

Cougar boys go 1-1 in Holiday Tourney

The Cedar Mountain Cougar boys’ varsity basketball team participated in a holiday tournament in Lakeview over the holiday break. 

On Wednesday, December 29, the team went head-to-head with the Chargers of Brandon-Evansville in their first battle of the tournament.

Lady Cougars defeated by Mustangs

The Cedar Mountain Lady Cougars hosted the Mustangs of Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday, December 17 as part of a double-header.

The Mustangs were first on the board, but Megan Sandgren added two for the Cougars to tie things up at 2-all within the first minute of the game.

The teams battled back and forth, trading shots over the next several minutes. 

GFW girls fly past Hounds

The GFW Lady Thunderbirds hosted the teams from New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday, December 16 in Winthrop.

The T-Birds hit the ground running and worked hard to build an early lead. 

At the end of the first period, the T-Birds carried a 35-19 advantage into the break.

T-Birds get clipped by Tigers

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball teams headed to Springfield on Saturday, December 18 for a make-up game against the Springfield Tigers.

Both teams came out of the gate ready to play, and it was a back-and-forth battle from the start. The T-Birds did a good job of making sure their shots counted. By the end of the first half, they were trailing by just four points with a score of 30-34.

Cougar boys fall to Mustangs on final-second shot

The Cedar Mountain varsity basketball teams hosted the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Mustangs in a double-header on Friday, December 17 in Morgan.

The boys were the first to hit the court. The Mustangs controlled the tip and were the first to put points on the board, but the Cougars didn’t let that stand for very long. 

T-Bird boys fall to Chargers

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team traveled to New Ulm on Monday, December 13 to take on the Chargers.

The T-Birds did their best to keep pace with MVL, but by the end of the first half, they were facing a 17-31 deficit. 

The second half was better, but it wasn’t enough to erase the advantage the Chargers built for themselves in the first half

Kleinschmidt named to All-State 9-Man Football team

Cedar Mountain Senior Caden Kleinschmidt was recently named to the All-State 9-Man Football Team.

Team members are selected by the nine-man football coaches throughout the State of Minnesota. 

Kleinschmidt had 263 rushing yards in 26 carries, and 677 receiving yards in 51 receptions during the 2021 season for a total of 940 total yards.

T-Birds can’t get past Knights

The GFW boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Knights of Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday, December 7 in Winthrop.

The game started out slowly for both teams, but midway through the first half, the Knights had pulled out in front. By the 13-minute mark, they had a 4-16 advantage, and they never looked back.
