GFW community members tour schools to set priorities for new facility

On Friday, June 9, a bus loaded with 34 GFW community members set out on a day full of school tours to see modern learning environments in action. With visits to schools in Hutchinson, Willmar, Delano, and St. Peter, the group got to see a wide variety of spaces constructed in the past six years that are currently serving students. 

GFW School Board hears favorable report on bond sale

The GFW School Board met for their June meeting on Tuesday, June 20 at 6:30 pm.

After the agenda was approved the Board heard from Amy Bastian who presented the Q-Comp End- of-the-Year report.

Q-Comp is a voluntary ‘quality compensation’ program that encourages teachers and staff to achieve certain goals throughout the school year to earn additional compensation.

GFW students and alumni receive $245,750 in scholarship funds

Twenty GFW seniors received $245,750 in scholarship funds during the school’s Evening of Excellence on May 18. “Time flies when you’re having fun.” I’m not sure if that applies to school, but it seems to be the case every year. Time has especially gone by quickly these last weeks as PLS has been very busy and much of it has not been in the classroom. Here are many of the activities that have gone on at PLS over the last several weeks:

GFW FFA Chapter hosts annual banquet

The Pioneer Express Chapter held its annual FFA Banquet on Wednesday, May 17. At the banquet, members and their families celebrated the successful year the chapter had. They also celebrated individuals that went above and beyond at the Chapter, Region and State level. Those recognized are as follows:

On April 14th, GFW FFA held their Ag Equipment Day Thirteen tractors, one semi, and two trucks showed up to UFC early in the morning. Members got to enjoy pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs at the Grackle Days breakfast at UFC. After breakfast, members who brought equipment had a parade around the school bus loop for students to watch.

GFW School Board approves contracts for new building project

The GFW School Board met for their regular meeting on Monday, May 15. 

After the agenda was approved, the Board recognized the District’s retirees, including bus driver John Wisch, and teachers Jeff Seehafer and Ardie Seehafer.

Cedar Mountain School Board discusses contracts for technology/nursing services

The Cedar Mountain School Board met for their regular meeting on Monday, May 15 at the Franklin building.

After the Consent Agenda was approved, the group moved on to the Open Forum portion of the meeting, during which they heard from Ashley Straumann.
