As the calendar nears March, the sports calendar inches toward spring. Cedar Mountain is proud of the opportunities we offer our students. There are few schools our size in the region who are able to offer the opportunities we do. 

GFW FFA members receive awards

Friday, February 4 was a big day for the GFW Pioneer Express FFA members. Three students applied for their state degree, completed in proficiency areas, and were being considered for the Region Star Farmer award and Region Officer Candidate. 

When the day was done, the results were impressive! 

Fairfax VFW Patriot Pen Contest Winners

The 2022 Fairfax VFW Patriot Pen essay contest winners were announced at Prairie Lutheran School last week. This year’s winners include Felicity Johnson (1st Place), Wyatt Feucht (2nd Place), Tayler Sommer (3rd Place) and Nate Cole (4th Place). The winners all advanced to the District contest where Feucht also earned second place. He will advance to the Department-level competition.

These are exciting times for our school district! We are moving forward with a new course and programming guide that will result in over 100 additional opportunities for our students being added. These include expanded course options, additional support for students, new and improved programming, as well as new technology initiatives. Our career and college readiness academies include:

GFW School Board approves moving 5th graders to MS/HS campus

The GFW School Board met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 18.

To start the meeting, the Board heard from several students and staff members regarding the tours of other schools they attended in December, as well as the Big Ideas simulations that the students had an opportunity to try out earlier this month.

GFW Elementary January Update

January’s weather has made it difficult for our students to get outside and play during recess. If the windchill is below 0 the students stay inside for recess. We are fortunate to have options for students during these times. Options include movies, games, art, and gym time when the gym is available. Despite the cold, winter can be a time filled with fun activities.
