GFW Track teams compete at St. James

The GFW track teams traveled to St. James to compete in the warmest meet of the season on Tuesday, May 3. The GFW boys finished third with 51 points behind St. James and River Valley.

Alex Johnson had a great day in the throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 37’ 3 1/2”, and the discus with a throw of 118’ 10”. 

Lady T-Birds drop two to Greyhounds

The GFW varsity softball teams hosted the Cathedral Greyhounds in a Tomahawk Conference double-header on Thursday, May 5.

In the first game of the day, the Hounds started things off with a six-run first inning, including a two-run homerun.

GFW Golfers have successful meet against BLHS

The GFW Golf teams hosted the Mustangs of BLHS in a Tomahawk Conference golf matchup on Thursday, April 28 at the Winthrop Golf Club.

The day was windy and cool with showers off and on throughout the afternoon, but that didn’t impact the T-Birds ability to golf a good game.

GFW girls defeat Indians, Wolverines

The GFW varsity softball team traveled to Sleepy Eye on Thursday, April 28 to take on the Indians, in what was supposed to be a double-header.  Mother Nature had other ideas, and the second game was postponed, but the T-Birds earned a 9-7 victory in the game they did play.

GFW started things off at the plate. Morgan Aylsworth walked on and then advanced on a single by Jessica Willegal to score GFW’s first run.

GFW has some top finishes at Sibley East

After numerous cancellations GFW finally was able to compete in their first track meet of the season on April 26 at Sibley East. The GFW boys finished the day in fifth place with 37 points.

Belle Plaine won the meet with 108 points, Sibley East was second with 87, MVL/Cathedral took third with 79, and Tri-City United finished fourth with 61.

River Valley Tracksters find continued success at New Ulm meet

The River Valley Track teams participated in the New Ulm Invitational on Thursday, April 28.

The Wildcat girls continued their streak with another first-place finish, scoring a total of 147.5 points in the meet.

The boys’ team commandeered another second-place finish with 113 points.

Wildcats do well at St. James Meet

The River Valley track teams headed to St. James on April 21 for an eight-team meet. The girls’ team maintained their streak by placing first with 146 points, while the boys’ team took second with 118 points.

Other teams competing in the meet were Jackson County Central, St. Clair/Immanuel, Martin County West, LeSueur-Henderson, Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey, St. James and Westbrook Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central.

Lady T-Birds tie one, lose one to Tigers

The GFW Thunderbird softball team traveled to Springfield on Monday, April 18 for a double-header against the Springfield Tigers.

The T-Birds weren’t able to get any hits in their first several innings, while the Tigers scored one run in the first and two in the second. The third inning was quiet for both teams.

Cedar Mountain, GFW golf teams go head-to-head

The GFW Thunderbirds golf teams hosted the Cedar Mountain Cougars at the Winthrop Golf Course on Thursday, April 21.

The Cougars came away with the win and had both medal winners for the day.

Cougar golfers open season at Mayflower

The Cedar Mountain golf teams opened their season with a triangular against Minnesota Valley Lutheran and Wabasso on Monday, April 11 at the Mayflower Golf Club.

For the boys’, the Cougar varsity team finished the day with 213 points.
