The GFW Bowling teams were in New Ulm on Saturday, October 24 at Concordia Lanes for their conference matches. Varsity Team #1 started with three losses against Sibley East and then came back with winning two of three against New Ulm Varsity #2. Their third match only had one win against New Ulm Varsity #1 but Danny Buerkle had a strong outing with eight strikes giving him a 91 percent fill for the match.

The Cedar Mountain varsity volleyball team hosted the Knights of Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday, October 29 in Morgan.
The Lady Cougars had been on a roll, winning three of their four matches so far this season. Unfortunately, the Knights were determined to put a stop to their streak.

The GFW varsity volleyball team traveled to Sleepy Eye on Thursday, October 22 to battle the Knights of St. Mary’s.
So far this season, the Lady T-Birds were undefeated following victories over Cedar Mountain, MVL and Springfield. But the Knights had other ideas about how this match would go.

The Cedar Mountain varsity volleyball team went head-to-head with the MVL Chargers on Thursday, October 22.
Coming off a victory over BLHS last week, the Cougars had a taste of victory, and they wanted more of it.
The Chargers didn’t make it easy for them, however. The Cougars had to work for every point, especially in the first set where the score went to 28-26!

The GFW varsity football team traveled to Mapleton on Friday night to take on the Eagles of Maple River.
The T-Birds received the ball to start the game, but they weren’t able to get past the Eagles’ defense. They were forced to punt it away to end their first series.

Last Friday, October 16 was a busy day for Jolene Palmer and her three girls – Stephanie, Jennifer and Megan.
Friends, neighbors and family members from all over the area assembled at their farm Friday morning. From there the group disbursed and proceeded to harvest about 1,000 acres of corn in 15 hours using 11 combines, 11 grain carts, and 27 semis.

Many of the large ‘box stores’ are already bringing out their Christmas decorations and gifts, despite the fact that there’s still a full week and a half before Halloween arrives. The change of seasons prompts many of us to start thinking about the upcoming holidays and the decorating, cooking and gift-giving that goes along with it. But some families in our area struggle to make ends meet all year long.
